Peace work

Since spring 2017, District 1410 has been focusing on international peace work. Every year, the district recruits people from all over Finland to apply for Rotary Peace Fellow scholarships from the Rotary Foundation. The fellows can study for either a two-year master’s degree or one-year professional development at seven Rotary Peace Centres. The nearest of these Peace Centres is at Uppsala University in Sweden. The others are at universities in England, the United States, Australia, Japan, Thailand and Uganda.

Each year our district has been successful in securing 1-2 scholarships to these universities to study peace promotion and conflict resolution. In addition to Finnish applicants, you can apply for peace scholarships through our district in countries where there is no Rotary activity or which do not support Rotary peace education.

Our district is the only district in Europe to have been awarded the Peacebuilder District designation by the Rotary Foundation. Every Rotarian in the district donated a Peacebuilder’s ten euros in 2019 to the Rotary Foundation. The US$25,000 donation collected was earmarked to support Rotary Peace Centres.
