Cyanobacteria observation

Rotarians observe the presence of cyanobacteria

In 2020, our partner Finnish Environment Institute SYKE gave us opportunity to help the Baltic Sea by conducting regular blue-green algae observations in the area of Bothnian Sea – Archipelago Sea – North Baltic Sea – Åland Sea.

We immediately took action and started making weekly recurring visual observations from our own cottage beach, harbours, public beach, or even from a boat. The observations are made from the same locations weekly from the beginning of June to the end of September.

In 2021 the Finnish Rotarians operated 178 official observation sites. You can see the sites and the observations made on Järviwiki
