Together with the incoming End Polio Now coordinator for Zone 18, Lidun Hareide, we are launching a great joint effort to mark World Polio Day on 24 October 2025. Our goal is to engage Rotary districts and clubs in Zones 17 and 18 to illuminate local buildings or landmarks with the signature Rotary message ‘END POLIO NOW’.

Imagine the impressive sight of numerous sites across the Nordic and Baltic countries glowing with a unified message: polio is conquerable, and we Rotarians are committed to its ultimate eradication! Not only would this create a visually stunning reminder of our important work, it would also attract widespread attention in our communities and remind everyone that the work to permanently eradicate polio continues.

All six Rotary districts in Norway are joining this campaign, and Lidun is currently working to get districts in Iceland on board.
Now it is our time, the future leaders of Zone 17, to show our commitment and creative energy! Let’s all get involved, shall we?

This is an opportunity for us:

  • Raise awareness: raise the profile of polio eradication work locally.
  • To unite Rotarians: to create a sense of community and common purpose among Rotary districts and clubs in our zone.
  • Inspire action: provide club members with a tangible and visually impactful way to participate in World Polio Day.
  • Visibility for Rotary: To enhance Rotary’s image as an active humanitarian organization with worldwide impact. Increase awareness of Rotary in general to attract more potential members.

We are ready to support you in planning and implementing this campaign in your districts. Let’s work together as a light to overcome polio!

Sincerely,
Mikko Lindeman, End Polio Now Coordinator, Zone 17
