Why is the Spring Meeting special in Rotary?

In most associations, the spring meeting approves the previous year’s financial statements and annual report. In Rotary, however, it is the key decision making meeting for the upcoming year, as the Rotary year begins on 1 July and ends on 30 June.

The spring meeting approves:
• the action plan
• the budget
• the District Leadership Plan
• the board and officers

Aligning Rotary rules with national legislation

Rotary operates under both Rotary International rules and the association laws of Finland and Estonia. District 1420 is registered in Finland, but its members include Estonian clubs. The legislation is very similar in both countries.

District Council composition for 2026–27

Four members are automatically determined by RI rules:
DG Heldur Allese (District Governor)
IPDG Jere Jantunen (Immediate Past District Governor)
DGE Anne Kuusio (District Governor Elect)
DGN Tiit Rahkema (District Governor Nominee)

The spring meeting also elected two Past District Governors:
PDG Irmeli Viherluoto Lindström, Chair of the Finance Committee
PDG Aune Past, Chair of the Membership Committee

The number of Assistant Governors (AGs) will decrease to 11 (7 in Finland and 4 in Estonia).

DGE Heldur Allese’s priorities and goalsål

The incoming governor highlighted the 100th anniversary of Rotary in Finland (1927–2027).

Key goals for the Rotary year:
• 100 new members in district clubs
• 100 Paul Harris Fellowships
• The anniversary District Conference will be held at the House of Nobility on 10 April 2027

Membership fees and their structure

The district fee covers shared services, the Rotary Norden magazine, and a contribution to polio eradication. Clubs also pay the RI membership fee separately.

The district’s role in supporting clubs

The meeting concluded that goals and funding are well balanced. The district’s primary task is to support clubs in their activities and challenges.

Clubs are encouraged to contact:
• Assistant Governors
• committees
• District Council members

Support is intended for both idea development and problem solving.
