Dear Rotary friends,
Autumn has brought our district meaningful meetings and shared activities. We have met in Saaremaa and in Helsinki. Now Tallinn awaits us: on 17 October we will discuss membership, hold the district autumn meeting and support the fight against polio.
- At the membership seminar, we will think together about how to invite new people into Rotary and how to keep the joy of doing things together and a sense of belonging alive in our clubs. Every club’s experience is valuable. Bring your questions, good examples and ideas! Register for the membership seminar: https://forms.gle/E1f8V3LXuzNHyH7u6
- At the autumn meeting, we will discuss the district’s shared matters. Register for the autumn meeting: https://forms.gle/aXKDtSAbzaQVatfu6
- The End Polio Late Afternoon Luncheon is a charity lunch where we can contribute to Rotary’s shared goal: a world where no child gets polio. The fee is 65 euros, of which 15 euros goes to The Rotary Foundation’s PolioPlus programme. There will also be a raffle with very good prizes. Register and pay by 13 October: https://rotarypiiri1420.tapahtumiin.fi/fi/
I look forward to a great turnout and happy reunions!
Rotary brought experts on the clean Baltic Sea to Saaremaa when the D1420 Baltic Sea Forum was held there. Specialists working for a clean Baltic Sea gathered on the island, and the local newspaper Saarte Hääl also wrote about the forum: https://saartehaal.postimees.ee/8550034/rotary-toi-saaremaale-laanemere-vee-uurimise-kogemuse. The sea connects us across national borders. Protecting it takes knowledge and cooperation. Thank you to the organisers and participants who made this meeting happen!
On 3 October, Tallinn Rotary Club organised a tour of three cemeteries in Helsinki, visiting graves connected to the shared history of Estonia and Finland. Representatives of the Tallinn, Tallinn Hansa, Tartu, Rapla and Saaremaa Rotary clubs took part. It was a chance to remember the people and stories that connect our nations and to spend time with Rotary friends. Many thanks to Tallinn Rotary Club for organising the day!
Silakkasoutu brought hikers and rowers together on 4 October, when we took part in the Silakkasoutu event in Helsinki. Seven members of the Estonian Rotary family went hiking and 21 went rowing. The Tallinn Rotary, Tallinn International Rotary, Tallinn Hansa, Tartu Hansa, Tartu, Rapla, Põlva, Viljandi, Haapsalu and Saaremaa clubs were represented, together with Rotaract Tallinn International and Interact Club of Harjumaa. Joint activities give us a chance to get to know members of other clubs and strengthen the friendship between Estonian and Finnish Rotary. Thank you to everyone who took part!
The district conference grows from our shared ideas! We are already preparing for our April gatherings in Helsinki. On 9 April, the District 1420 association holds its official spring meeting, and on 10 April the district conference takes place at Ritarihuone, where we will also celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Finland. We still welcome your thoughts: which topics should the conference cover, whom should we invite to speak, and how can we make the day even more rewarding for participants?
We are also looking for Rotarian volunteers. If you would like to help with the organising, please contact Jere: jere.jantunen@gmail.com. Every helping hand and good idea is welcome!
The Rotary Foundation seminars take place in November, so please mark your calendars:
- 17 November, 17:00 to 20:00, Rotary Foundation seminar in Helsinki, Hilton Helsinki Kalastajatorppa
- 18 November, 17:00 to 20:00, Rotary Foundation seminar in Tallinn, Novotel
These meetings help us better understand how, with the support of The Rotary Foundation, our clubs’ ideas can become impactful projects.
Dear friends, thank you for your time, ideas and willingness to act. Rotary grows stronger when we know one another, share our experiences and take our joint efforts to heart.
See you in Tallinn on 17 October!
Yours in Rotary,
Heldur Allese
Governor, Rotary District 1420
