Shelterbox
ShelterBox Finland – temporary homes in disaster areas
ShelterBox is a charity organisation founded by Rotarians in the UK in 2000. ShelterBox’s operations in Finland are coordinated by its official subdivision, ShelterBox Finland. The organisation arranges emergency shelter and related supply deliveries to areas suffering from natural disasters or humanitarian crises in different parts of the world.
The organisation is named after green plastic boxes called ‘shelter boxes’. The box contains a tent, a stove, blankets, mosquito nets, tools and other supplies, such as dishes and a water cleaner.
The organisation procures and delivers these boxes that meet people’s basic needs to the aid destinations. With a temporary home, the families in disaster areas get a new start and support for their new life.
Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation endorse the operations of ShelterBox. You can also join the organisation as a private person. More information on the Finnish contributions: www.shelterboxtuki.fi
