Governor’s Monthly Letter June 2024

Do we have hope? This was asked at a high-level seminar where the international situation and law were discussed. Summarizing the responses of the academics, I can say that each of them emphasized working together, influencing together, and supporting and encouraging each other. The speakers also encouraged to act boldly and with confidence in the future. This is how we make a better world and strengthen our communities. We create hope and strengthen our resilience in the midst of world crises. The speeches heard at the seminar were like the motto of Rotarians – Service before selfishness.

Summer breezes have echoed in schools and a large number of children and young people have moved to summer pastures. Vacation time is also looming for working Rotarians. Rotarian club activities also take a short summer break, just to gather strength for the new Rotary year. In the clubs, the chains change for future presidents and the plans and activities for the coming year have been decided or at least well planned. In the club, every member is important and every member is needed again when starting the activities of the new Rotary year. I still encourage clubs to cooperate and do things together and to acquire partners. This way we get more resources and strong, visible activities.

The governor’s chains will be changed at the end of June in Tallinn. Aune Past takes responsibility for the operation of our district, of course together with the district council. For me, the past year, the Rotary year that is now ending, has been interesting. It has been amazing to meet competent, skilled and committed Rotarians from different parts of our district. During the year I have received twigs and carrots. I thank them all, they all move things forward.

About a year ago, I was asked what I would like to have happened in our organization during my year as governor. I said at the time that I would like us to have more visibility, more outlets. Of course, I cannot fully assess whether this development has taken place. However, the public has seen our youth exchange. The Let’s create hope in the world projects and the annual celebrations of many clubs have also gained visibility.

Thank you clubs, Rotarians, the district council and all the committees of our district for the past Rotary year and for maintaining the Rotary spirit and spirit. This is good to continue.

Happy summer.
