Weekly meeting 29 – the subject of the presentation is “Ajankohtaista ympäristöhallinnosta” (Timo Jokelainen)

The Rotary Club of Rovaniemi gathered for its 29th weekly meeting today at Hotel Santa Claus.

Our club got a new member today. Vilma Karlsson already joined the international charity family of Rotarians on February 20, 2024, and due to last week’s community visit, the ceremony of becoming a member was held today. Warmly welcome to the club Vilma.

This week’s presentation was given by brother Timo Jokelainen. He told in his presentation “Contemporary environmental management” how many things are developing in the field of environmental management. First, we heard about the policies of the forward-looking government program related to environmental management. The newly established state administration units VALO and VOIMA will develop e.g. licensing administration procedures towards the “one-stop shop” principle and smoothing of “licensing”. Major reforms are currently being prepared.

Brother Timo also told how the reforms of the Building Act and the Land Use Act are progressing. These have implications for streamlining permit processes. In Veli Timo’s presentation, we also heard about the situation of the mineral strategy 2040 project. In other words, it really is a current overview of the developing field of environmental management.

The interesting and perceptive presentation raised questions and a lively discussion.
