Rotary’s global campaign to eliminate polio from the world began in 1985. At that time, about 1,000 people fell ill every day from the disease caused by the polio virus, meaning that about 350,000 children, often under the age of 5, were paralyzed or died each year due to polio. In the 1980s, polio was present in 125 countries. Today, there are only two countries where indigenous polio has not been eradicated: Afghanistan and Pakistan.
On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, the Rotary Club of Rovaniemi went to Prisma in Rovaniemi from 12:00 to 9:00 p.m. for the traditional polio day collection. All support is necessary and you could also participate in the collection with a bank and credit card. Many citizens wanted to do good together with us, and we collected funds with the power of ten Rotarians!
