Did you know that there is a bookshelf open to everyone on the second floor of Sampokeskus? Rovaniemi Rotary Club launched a model of an open bookshelf a few years ago. The idea was found in Germany and now the open bookshelf has been on the upper floor of the Sampokeskus.
The open bookshelf is intended for all reading lovers during Sampokeskus’ opening hours. You can take the book with you free of charge and also bring it back so that someone else can read it. You can freely bring books to the shelf, if there is room. Our goal is for people to learn to recycle books, because they can bring a lot of joy to another person. Recycling also reduces the waste load.
As a tourist town, we hope to have Lapland-related books on the shelves and books in foreign languages for tourists. Children’s and youth books are always in high demand. Instead, you can put old information books and dictionaries directly in the paper collection, as long as you first remove the covers from them.
Tuesday 10 October 2023 is the day of Aleksis Kivi and Finnish literature. That’s great a reason to visit our open bookshelf! Good reading times.
