Greetings from the Governor

On October 5th, we held the Herring Row and Hike. It was a joy to see so many cheerful Rotarians present. Minister of Environment and Climate, Sari Multala, served as the event’s patron and gave an inspiring thank-you speech to Rotarians for our work for the Baltic Sea. The proceeds from the Herring Row will be donated to WWF.

There were enough rowers to fill 9 church boats, and after the rowing and hiking, we enjoyed a herring lunch and held a seminar aboard Viking Gabriella. Thank you to the organizers for the excellent groundwork.

The international END POLIO DAY is on October 24th, when we will host an End Polio dinner at Hotel Kalastajatorppa. You can register directly via Eventio. Proceeds from the event will be donated to End Polio through the Rotary Foundation.

Clubs may organize an End Polio walk in their own way and collect and donate, for example, 1 euro per kilometer walked. If the club collects money from each walker, the donation can be made to the Polio Plus program via MyRotary.

Our district’s autumn meeting will be held on October 25th at Hotel AX, where we will review IPDG Aune Past’s financial statement for the year and wrap it up. The event begins at 10:00 with coffee and registration, and the meeting itself runs from 10:30 to 12:00, followed by a presentation by Trustee Ann-Britt Åkebom on the Rotary Foundation. Everyone is welcome to Hotel AX on Tyynenmerenkatu.

The Rotarians’ Fusion Action Summit was held in Brussels at the end of September, and our district was represented by DG Jere, DGE Heldur, and DGN Anne. Heldur and Anne were there for the whole week due to their own training before the Summit, and then all three of us participated together. Many great discussions, presentations, Rotary insights, and future visions from the RI President and the incoming President.

It was wonderful to be part of it. There were also many Finns from other districts, and we had many shared discussions and planned a joint future across districts.

The District Council met on October 5th and decided to support Nordact2025 organized by Rotaract Estonia, as we recognize how important it is for Rotary to increase visibility and potentially attract new young members.

Autumn has arrived – let’s enjoy it, have a joyful and active End Polio Day, and raise funds together to eliminate polio from the world.

The search for a new governor has begun, and all clubs that wish to may propose a person who is trusted, knowledgeable about Rotary, has served at least one full term as club president, and preferably has worked in various committees and/or as assistant governor.

We hope for a strong turnout at the autumn meeting.

Unite for good

With Kind regards

Jere Jantunen
