Supporting young people, especially through Rotary Youth Exchange, has long been central to the work of the Rotary Club of Nurmijärvi. For this season, we set three goals: to strengthen our sales and marketing skills, to connect with local businesses, and to organise one new type of event. The new event became an English-style afternoon tea, inspired by another charity and held at Ketola Ostrich Farm, a venue well suited to an English countryside atmosphere.
Planning began already in the autumn, and cooperation with the Nordqvist tea factory in Nurmijärvi ensured a high-quality tea experience. Some of the food was sourced from local businesses. The first tea event was held on International Women’s Day, 8 March 2026, and advance registration helped us plan the catering accurately.

English afternoon tea originates from the 19th century British aristocracy and features tea, small sandwiches, scones and sweet pastries. At its heart is unhurried togetherness: “Soft background music brought warmth and elegance to the room.” Our club added its own touch through a menu featuring ostrich egg specialities, the décor of the dining room and the formal attire of the Rotary staff.
Nearly 90 guests attended, an ideal number for our club. The atmosphere was warm and the feedback very positive: “The steady conversation and the comments we received from guests” confirmed this.
The proceeds support Rotary Youth Exchange and the health education programme of the Koulutus Elämään Foundation. Our sincere thanks go to all guests and to our enthusiastic volunteer team.
