Tapiola Rotary Club, together with the Tapiola Guild, has created a digital park trail application for Silkkiniitty: emuseo.fi/tapiola. The application focuses on the history of Silkkiniitty and its trees and shrubs. Silkkiniitty, originally a meadow field belonging to the Hagalund Manor, is a seven-hectare open area that forms the central park of the garden city of Tapiola in Espoo and represents its most original park landscape. The meadow is also known as the heart or lungs of Tapiola. The park trail application includes 20 points of interest with photos and descriptions, offering opportunities to explore them in different seasons and through different senses. The aim is to preserve Tapiola’s central cultural landscape and increase awareness of the local environment.
In early childhood education, schools and families, the park trail can be used for activities such as exercise, painting, quizzes or inventing stories about the different points. The application has been enthusiastically received in day-care centres and schools where we have presented it.
We will organise a park trail walk at Silkkiniitty on 3 May 2026. You are warmly welcome – more detailed information will be available on our website closer to the event.
