Baltic Sea Day was celebrated across the country on 28 August 2025, and District 1420 participat-ed with a Rotary tent at the Baltic Sea Festival on Kansalaistori Square. We told visitors what Ro-tary is and what Rotarians are doing for the Baltic Sea. We invited people to join the Herring Rowing event, carried out water tests with a water backpack, shared information about the Vantaa River’s water pockets, ESRAG’s international activities, blue-green algae monitoring, and litter on beaches.
A highlight once again was the sorting of household waste according to how long it takes to disap-pear from the sea. Many were surprised to learn that a disposable diaper or an aluminum can can take hundreds of years to decompose. It was wonderful to see how many children and young peo-ple were eager to test their knowledge.
A cheerful and energetic group of experienced Rotarians were present, happily sharing about Rotary activities and encouraging people to join the Herring Rowing on 5 October and to become members of Rotary clubs.
Baltic Sea Day was first organized in 2020, and Rotarians have been involved from the beginning. The main organizer is the John Nurminen Foundation.
